What Exactly Is Tower Running, Anyway?
The start of a new year is the perfect time to think about giving yourself a new challenge – and can you think of anything more challenging that running up and down skyscrapers all the time?
This is a new fitness trend that’s gathering pace here in the UK and beyond, also known as tower running, with events put on throughout the year where you’re challenged to run (OK, walk) up never-ending flights of stairs to help them meet their fitness goals and raise money for charity at the same time.
Think about it… even if you hit the gym on a regular basis, we bet there are times when you’re heading up the stairs to get to the office and you find yourself well out of breath at the top. It’s no surprise – climbing stairs is a ridiculously good workout!
It’s all about high intensity exercise over short periods of time, so you’re going to burn off lots of those pesky calories very quickly indeed. And if you’re after toning your muscles in your legs and glutes, then find yourself a staircase double time.
The best way to go about getting into tower running is simply just to start – and the best place to do that is to have a look at the Tower Running UK website. They post all the different races going on throughout the year around the country so have a look to see what’s going on in your local area.
The next few races coming to a staircase near you are Stairs And The City (see what they did there?) on April 14th at The Leadenhall Building in London (1,258 steps) and Conquer The Tower on May 12th at Broadgate Tower in London (877 steps). Feel the burn!
